Recceology (from the ancient Latin: recognoscere, and later French: reconnaitre meaning 'recognise' and ancient Latin logos meaning 'word') is the archaeological term for a group of non-invasive studies, such as topographical evaluation, surface examination, aerial observation, spall measurement, fortification tracing and environmental measurements.

It is that grouping of studies upon which the founding company of the Recceology Group named itself after when changing name from Pinstripe Independent, and the name which has passed on to most of the group companies.. irrespective of how their discipline relates to archaeology.
